The Blue Pool is on an estate near Wareham and is a large naturally filled pool and the minerals in the water change the colour from green to blue. You can never be sure it’s going to be blue! The walk takes less than 1 hour and it is best to combine your visit with a cream tea back at the tea rooms.
I read the reviews on accessibility and the overwhelming view was that it was not wheelchair friendly. As we were going with our family I decided to take the risk and if it wasn’t suitable for my scooter I would wait in the tearooms for them.
Not wishing to be beaten I decided to give the walk ago on my scooter and I’m pleased to report I was able to get all the way round. There were some dodgy areas that perhaps I shouldn’t have attempted, but I did and it was a beautiful walk. You would have to be confident and willing to deal with several high tree roots and slopes to give it a go. It would be easy to turn back if you felt you’ve gone too far.
Swanage is a 25 min drive to the coast from the Blue Pool, through Corfe Castle village (this is somewhere I wouldn’t attempt to take my scooter)
The prom runs alongside the sandy Swanage beach and then you can continue all the way to a Victorian pier. I haven’t tried it, but having been many times in the past you should be able to scoot up through the town and to the Swanage railway.
We came across Holme for Gardens by accident on the way home from the Blue Pool and made a visit several months later.
We thought it was just a garden centre with restaurant but were delighted to discover they also have acres of beautifully landscaped gardens to explore. The paths are mainly of grass and easy to get around. There is plenty of room to manoeuvre your scooter around the restaurant and outside seated areas .
